Tritons
This project, Tritons, is a continuation of a concept I first explored in 2020 with the Sirens shoot, which focused on the ethereal beauty and mystique of female models embodying the ancient mythology of sirens. For Tritons, I wanted to shift the narrative towards the powerful and enigmatic male counterpart — the triton — and bring to life a vision that captures the duality of strength and tranquility.
Set against the backdrop of Hamburg’s mid-summer warmth, the shoot unfolded in an atmosphere of creative exploration. The models, Dario and Lucas, were instrumental in channeling the essence of the triton archetype, bringing not only their impressive physical presence but also a sense of playfulness and ease to the set. Their energy was contagious, filling the day with a lighthearted spirit, while still embodying the deeper symbolism of Tritons—figures both commanding and fluid, shaped by the ocean’s unpredictable nature.
To evoke a sense of the sea’s mystique and otherworldliness, we incorporated delicate mesh fabric, allowing it to move and flow like water itself. The texture of the fabric added a layer of visual drama, capturing the light and creating a sense of movement, even in stillness. We pushed the boundaries of the shoot, experimenting with submersion to bring an underwater element to the imagery, enhancing the dreamlike quality that defines the essence of Tritons.
Despite the physicality of the shoot and the technical challenges of working with water, there was a serene calmness that enveloped the day. It felt less like a production and more like a natural unfolding of creativity, where everyone involved was in sync with the rhythm of the moment. The result was not only a series of striking images but also a profound reflection of balance — between the dynamic and the serene, the dramatic and the effortless. This shoot holds a special place for me, not only for the visual story it tells but for the spirit of joy, ease, and inspiration that permeated every aspect of the process.
